Train Sleeper Markers

markers

Unsure of the exact nature of the numbers visible at the head of each nail however the four of them do make for an interesting abstract shot, again this is one of the trail sleeper series shot at Wicksteed park during a sunny September day in 2008. And as with all my train sleeper shots, there are some wonderful textures visible here. In 2007 I found a similar arrangement of train sleepers sporting some wonderful yellow brown iron rust around the rivets and some bright green moss – unfortunately all my shots of this were flawed due to poor exposure – however if I can, I will file some of these shots under my Flawed Shots page http://blog.agwoods.co.uk/flawed-shots .

Train Sleeper Nail

It’s the colour and texture of this shot that wins it for me, very simple framing of the edge of a gnarled train sleeper with a long iron nail. Emphasised the wood grain by slowly graduating the depth-of-field to create a gracious blur (using centre-weighted metering at f6.3 for 1/250second).

Sleeper Fungi

After an extremely wet and dull (not to mention cold) week, the warm Sunday September sunshine was most welcome. During my walk through the often overlooked nature trails of Wicksteed park (Kettering) I came upon a glorious arrangement of old weathered train sleepers, and this little fungi (or fungus) caught my eye. Shot at f7.1 for 1/250second with my fixed 50mm Nikon lens.

Faces collage

My first piece of Photoshop art in quite some time, just a simple collage made from a collection of photographs.

Another Butterfly 2006

Again, not an amazing shot and perhaps not enough depth-of-field, but there is something about this picture which prevented me from filing it as a flawed shot.

Butterfly 2006

Another summer 2006 photograph, however this only just misses the Failed Shots page on the basis of sound composition. Where it falls down is framing, and so I deem this picture “average”, not one of my favourite pictures but pretty all the same. I have performed a little cropping to this picture. The shot was taken at f5.6 for 1/200second at 70mm.

Wounded Solider

Lovely natural shot of my dear brave sister with both wrists in plaster casts. Shot using my trusty fixed 50mm friend at f5.6 for about 1/100 of a second using only natural light.

Campus Summer 2006

Summer 2006 at Leicester De Montfort University campus gardens, enjoying the sunshine with my Nikon D70. Here I liked the contrast between the sunlit tree bark and the campus building that forms the background.
