Stephen & Susan Long (riding hats)

Here we have one of a collection (not all uploaded) of old shoe-box black and white prints from the family archives, not my work, but I have tried my humble best to present a digital copy.

Horses have always been in my family, here is a lovely warm picture of my mother and uncle (brother and sister) with their riding hats on, lovely texture in this picture. Almost unchanged with minor noise removed and a little cropping.

Curtain Portrait

Taken in July 2000 (Beth would be about 6 years old here) with my old trusty Yashica Minster fixed 35mm pure mechanical camera. Unfortunately quite a bit of dust and scratches were revealed during the scan of this print, but nonetheless I believe this to be a wonderful little portrait, perhaps one of the first aimed portraits I shot.

Faire Haired Flower

Can’t entirely recollect what occasion this was taken from, some form of house party I would think, I do know it was taken in February 2000. Dear sister painted in flowery face-paint.

On The Rocks [2]

Presented to you from a carefully scanned print (of 6 x 4). Its exposure is unchanged with no enhancements other than minor work to remove surface noise obtained from scanning a printed photograph. In addition I have adjusted the gamma to compensate for some extra lighting captured during the scan.

on TheRocks1 and 2 are great natural pictures, here Vicky is completely unaware of the camera and is entirely absorbed in the act of netting for rock pool creatures unknown. These were shot in 2003 using a Nikon F60 35mm.

Climbing Frame

Presented to you from a carefully scanned print (of 6 x 4). Its exposure is unchanged with no enhancements other than minor work to remove surface noise obtained from scanning a printed photograph. For this shot however I adjusted the gamma to correct a small degree of excess light captured during scanning.

Toy Buggy Frame

Presented to you from a carefully scanned print (of 6 x 4). Its exposure is unchanged with no enhancements other than minor work to remove surface noise obtained from scanning a printed photograph. I love the smooth plastic green of this artificial yet perfect frame, if I remember correctly we had some trouble getting her out this infant wheeled buggy. A wonderful smile, no forced expressions here, it was a lovely sunny day and a wonderful barbeque, one of the very few I have decided to attend.

Wounded Solider

solider

Lovely natural shot of my dear brave sister with both wrists in plaster casts. Shot using my trusty fixed 50mm friend at f5.6 for about 1/100 of a second using only natural light.

Time and Tide Silhouette

sea
Fun on the rocks at Lyme Regis 2003, with the sea lapping against the rocks and the sun offering a wonderful golden light against the sea dampened rocks. With careful footing and strategic placement I waited for the perfect wave. Occasionally life yields a little bonus or two, this was such an occasion as just before the wave hit, my sister’s attention was drawn away from the camera, offering me an un-posed natural picture. Taken with the Nikon F60.

Preoccupied Portrait

Personally I love this quirky shot of my little sister. She portrays a wonderful deep thoughtfulness with a sprinkle of mysteriousness. During my Leicester day trip in August 2008 I stumbled upon a really colourful weathered wall and wondered for quite some time how to best capture it. Thought it best to use it as a nice textured backdrop. Shot at 35mm f7.1 for 1/100second. This shot was originally in colour however I believe it carries more character in grey-scale.
